1.1 What is Excel?
Microsoft Excel is a software package. It is a powerful grid-based spreadsheet that has a variety of uses.
1.2 What can Excel do?
In a general sense, Excel is used to store, organise, calculate, and analyse data.
In a day-to-day, more specific sense, Excel is used to create tables, charts, dashboards, task tracking, budgets, loan calculators, to-do lists, vacation and trip planners, lists, questionnaires, stock portfolio trackers, and much more.
As an accountant, I use Excel for bookkeeping, management accounting, final accounts compiling, cash flow forecasts, business planning, client management, credit control and more.
